The Jewish Community Council of Northern New Mexico was founded in 1996. Our organizations mission has evolved ”to provide Chevra Kadisha support and services to the diverse Jewish population of Northern New Mexico and to maintain and enhance the Jewish cemetery in Santa Fe. The JCCNNM will partner with other organizations on educational programs relevant to our Mission.
Our first project was to coordinate and develop a section of Rivera Memorial Gardens for use as a Jewish cemetery. The Chevrot Kadisha organizations in Santa Fe and Los Alamos decided to come together into one organization in 2006, under the auspices of the JCCNNM. We are one of the very few Chevrot that span the range of observance, with membership from all synagogues in Santa Fe, Los Alamos & Northern New Mexico.
We have sponsored a variety of educational events over the years. About once a year, we conduct a session to train volunteers on conducting the taharah ceremony.
